In Coolest Girl in School, which comes out later this year in Australia and early next year in the United States, you play as a high school girl who has two weeks to become popular. The game is an RPG that uses a combination of customizing your outfit, making and losing friends, and answering teen magazine-style multiple choice questions to determine what kind of social status you will achieve.
The game's art style is evocative of girlhood scrapbooking and teenage note-passing. The juxtaposition of this seemingly innocent act with what many deem adult subject matter is unsettling (and depending on your position, a bit on the humorous side). Your character's highly customizable wardrobe includes styles like emo, fasionista, and indie, along with styles that sound distinctively Australian, like "bogan" (low-class), "cooly d" (hip-hop) and "bush pig" (rough).
Whether or not the game proves to be as interesting (and funny) in execution as it sounds in concept has yet to be seen, but it certainly takes a different tact than other games that are aimed specifically at teenage girls.
